What is Tintype Sunday?
Tintype Sunday is a dedicated portrait day where I create one-of-a-kind tintype photographs using a traditional wet collodion process from the 19th century.
These sessions take place a few times per month and are limited to a small number of participants to keep the experience calm, personal, and unhurried.
This is not a quick photoshoot — it’s a moment set aside to slow down and create something tangible.
A tactile, unforgettable experience
This is not just a portrait session — it’s a rare, hands-on experience.
You will be photographed using a camera that is over 100 years old.Imagine how many faces, stories, and generations have passed through its lens.
During the session, you’ll witness something few people ever see: your image slowly appearing on a metal plate, right in front of you
No AI.No digital files.
Only light, physics, and chemistry.
Each plate is a one-of-a-kind physical object — imperfect, honest, and impossible to replicate.
What is the wet collodion process?
Invented in the 1850s, the wet collodion process requires each plate to be:
- Hand-coated with chemistry
- Exposed while still wet
- Developed immediately
- Fixed, washed, and later varnished
There are no retakes, no presets, and no digital backups. Each tintype exists as a single physical original.
What’s included
Each Tintype Sunday session includes:
- One original 5×7 tintype plate
- A 30–40 minute portrait session
- Gentle guidance with posing and expression
- Careful handling and finishing of your plate
- Additional plates: up to 2 extra 5×7 plates
You don’t need any prior experience — I’ll guide you through the entire process.
Questions and answers
Can we do a couple or a small family portrait?
Yes — couples, friends, or two people together are welcome. A family with one calm child may be possible, but please confirm with me first. The price is based on plates, not the number of people. Everyone must remain still for about 4 seconds — even small movements soften details.
What should I wear?
- Lace, velvet, embroidery — beautiful textures
- Avoid logos or text (they appear reversed)
- Avoid sunscreen or UV-blocking makeup
Can I get additional plates?
Yes — up to 2 additional 5×7 plates per session
Can I bring children or pets?
Yes — if they can stay completely still for about 4 seconds.Blinking is fine. Movement is not.A sharp result cannot be guaranteed if someone moves.
Can I get a retake?
Retakes are only possible in case of technical issues:
- Closed eyes
- Damaged plate
- Major focus or exposure error
Tintype embraces truth, texture, and imperfection — that’s what makes it timeless.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes, postal delivery is available as an optional add-on.
Is parking available?
Yes — parking details will be provided after booking.

Tintype is slow.
It requires patience, presence, and trust in the process. But what you receive is something rare:a physical object that will still exist long after files, feeds, and formats disappear.
A Note About Lighting We use powerful studio flashes required for the tintype process. They are generally safe, but if you have sensitivity to bright light (epilepsy, migraines, recent eye surgery), please consult your doctor beforehand.
